BYU beats Oklahoma on ESPN Sept 5th

PROVO, Utah (June 1, 2009) — The start time and network for the 2009 BYU football season opener against Oklahoma has been officially announced. The Sept. 5 game vs. the Sooners will kick off at 6 p.m. CT (5 p.m. MT) nationally on ESPN.

The Cougars and Sooners will face each other at the new, state-of-the-art Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, as part of the second annual ESPN Kickoff Week. The featured contest with BYU and Oklahoma pits two of only seven teams nationally to win 10 or more games each of the last three seasons.

With the announcement, the start times and television broadcasts for BYU’s 2009 season are now complete. The Cougars will appear on VERSUS, CBS College Sports Network, and the ESPN networks twice apiece with seven contests being broadcast on The Mtn., including a simulcast with CBS of the BYU-Utah game on Nov. 28.

Last week, the Cougars have added some players to the fold, including Corby Eason, a junior college cornerback from Erie Community College in New York. He signed a letter of intent with BYU last week. He’ll join the program in August and he has three years of eligibility remaining.

Also, another high school player has verbally committed to BYU (class of 2010) in recent days, according to Totalbluesports.com — Teu Kautai, an outside linebacker from Oakridge High in Arlington, Tex. (the same school where Apo plays).

Grabbing Eason is important because cornerback is a position at which BYU is typically thin, particularly this season, especially where it appears one of last year’s starters, Brandon Howard, won’t return this fall.
